Black Art Matters did not begin as a slogan — and it does not end as one.
Rooted in a longer Swiss cultural conversation initiated within the photoSCHWEIZ context, Black Art Matters! returns to the FORUM this year as an intimate, curated dialogue on presence, authorship, and what it means to exist beyond performance.
At the centre of this conversation is the work of Kourtney Iman King, whose photographic practice explores the body as a site of memory, discipline, softness, and reclamation. Her work engages deeply with questions of gaze, respectability, and the inherited strategies Black women learn in order to move safely through the world.
